My pottery history
I am a native of Raleigh, North Carolina. I took my first pottery classes in 2015 at various art centers in the Raleigh area. Since 2018, I have been wood firing, three times a year, with Joseph Sand at his pottery in Randleman, NC.
Starting in 2019, I have been a studio member at ¡Ceramica! in Cary, NC.
My inspiration comes from my North Carolina connection to pottery. I started making pottery after years of watching active potters in the Seagrove area at work. The pieces I make now are largely functional and folk type pottery based on forms I remember from the past.
Wood Firing and Salt
This is the firing method that most connects with me. There is something exciting about picking up a pot that tells a story when you look at it. These pieces tell you where they were in the kiln, how they were sitting and how much they endured in the firing.
Currently, I am working on traditional swirl pottery and face jugs based on those seen in the Catawba Valley Potteries.
